This week is Ecobuild – the event of the year for people in the built environment industry who are interested in sustainability. It will be going on 7th-9th March in the Excel Centre in London.

CAT will be there on stand G140, showcasing a traditional timber frame srtucture and offering live demonstrations of many of the sustainable building short courses we have on offer. The stand will be a hub for finding out about a range of sustainable building techniques, as we will be showing:

  • A section of wall containing Breathaboard, a breathable alternative to plasterboard developed by two CAT MSc students as their dissertation project, and now going into production.
  • A timber frame structure built with traditional joinery techniques. It is the start of a building which will form the basis of the Advanced Timber Frame Joints course at CAT this September.
  • A section of wall made from Ecococon, and more traditional straw walls, as taught on the straw bale building course at CAT.
  • Both prefabricated hempcrete blocks and in-situ cast hempcrete; the material CAT’s WISE building is made from, and which is taught by Alex Sparrow from UK Hempcrete on our hempcrete short course.
  • Cob wall section, as taught on our cob building short course.

A daily programme of demonstrations will take place on the stand, including:

11am Building with straw bales

12:30amCob building (Tuesday&Wednesday) or laminating curves in wood (Thursday)

2pmBuilding with hemp and lime

4pmTraditional timber frame joints

Come to the CAT stand G140 for all of this and to speak to us about CAT courses, postgraduate courses, CAT membership, to get impartial advice on sustainable building.

Also come and speak to us about the Small is Beautiful Festival which is taking place at CAT 8th-11th June 2017, theamed on #HousingJustice and with an exciting lineup of eco building workshops and speakers alongside music and arts.

Entry to the event is free, and you can register here.
