Prof Dip Summer School Project 2012 from George Bevan on Vimeo.

From the 26th July – 5th August, CAT Professional Diploma students embarked on the construction of a sanctuary and walkway next to the WISE building as part of their summer school project. The sanctuary can be seen on the CAT visitors centre site.

The sanctuary and walkway were entirely designed and built by CAT students. The video above shows a timelapse of the construction of the sanctuary. Below are some photos and a sample of the drawings from the project.

All of the wood for the structure was sourced from within 5 miles of the site.

The architecture students at CAT design and build some kind of structure every year. Last year they built a bird hide that was shortlisted for an award by the Architects Journal.

The timber for the project arrives. All the wood being used has been sourced from within 5 miles of the site.

Starting to construct the walkway. Each of the posts are laid out.

Drawing of one of the walkway arms – each arm protrudes at a different angle creating a wave shape when they are all next to each other and framing the walkway.

Beautiful!

Starting to assemble the frames for the sanctury

…and working together all through the process.

The sanctuary starts to take shape

The sanctuary is complete

And ready to be enjoyed!
